Sky, Sea, Florals and Landscapes of the West
Sandy's
oils have a peaceful soft, almost
stained-glass effect yet realistic in its design. She ventures from traditional
realism to contemporary dramatic wave pieces.
Born Sandra Faye Wilkins, Sandy Mauck loved art from her earliest recollections. Her first field
trips were to
the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. where she was born. After
moving to Southern California, She remembers taking old car wash posters her
brother brought home and drawing portraits on the backs and taping them all
over the garage making her own first open gallery.Nearly every book she had were scribbled with crayons as a child.
Sandy
started her art career after raising 5 children. She picked up her first paint
brush in 1997, with artist friend
Jan Holman. The high quality and marketability of her first painting
delighted both family and friends. Several of her early paintings were shown at
the prestigious Hilltop Gallery in Prescott, Arizona. She has attended various
workshops including Scottsdale Artists’ School.
She
has been most inspired by the landscapes of the Hudson River School, the marine
art of Danny Hahlbohn, the skies of Doug Oliver, the pastel coasts of William Trost Richards and the sweet peaceful portraits and florals
of Sandra Kuck , Lena Liu, and Joyce Pike.
Sandy
is a member of the Oil Painters of America and California Art Club.
Sandy
is also a writer and loves to write poetry and now that love has blended with
her artwork and now accompanies most of her large oils, expressing her
sentiment in rhymed verse and metaphors.
Sandy
lived in the high desert - mountain areas of Arizona for 29 years and has now
returned to the Pacific Coast, north of where she lived as a child to the
beautiful Monterey Peninsula for her health and inspiration.
Sandy's
motto is "God is the ultimate artist, I only paint what He already
did."
